The game starts out with you in a place where everything is dark and the only thing you can see is your own shadow. From here, you must explore the different worlds to find your way out. Along the way, you will meet many characters, and you must decide how to interact with them. Some will help you and others will fight you. It is up to you to find the right people to help you.
